Protecting Corporate SharePoint Files from Remote Privilege Exploits

Kevin
July 15, 2026

Microsoft's July Patch Tuesday addressed a critical zero-day vulnerability: CVE-2026-56164. This remote elevation of privilege (EoP) exploit allows unauthenticated attackers to gain administrative access across Microsoft SharePoint Server networks by sending malicious POST requests.

For organizations running local SharePoint servers or hybrid cloud setups, failing to patch this vulnerability exposes internal communication channels, corporate files, and databases to risk.

At Sky Techiez, we focus on robust corporate data governance and migration safety. Here is how you can mitigate security issues and protect your company’s files.

Implementing the AMSI Mitigation Strategy

If you are unable to install the security patch immediately, Microsoft recommends enabling the Antimalware Scan Interface (AMSI) integration directly on your servers:

  1. Open the IIS (Internet Information Services) Manager on your SharePoint host server.

  2. Select your Web Application, navigate to request management, and enable AMSI Request Filtering.

  3. Set your Request Body Scan Mode to Full. This tells the system to scan incoming network payloads, blocking unauthorized malicious scripts.
